Trentham Beaver Scouts

 What is Beavers ?

Beaver Scouting is about having fun, making friends, keeping a promise, sharing, making progress and using a variety of groupings.

Beaver Scouting takes place in a Beaver Scout Colony. Our colony name is 1st Trentham Beaver Scouts and we use a "Space" theme for our names. Each Beaver is assigned a lodge which will be either Satellites, Comets, Galaxies or Asteroids. The leaders are called Mars, Earth, Saturn and Venus.

A Beaver is aged between 6 and 8 years, after which they transfer to Cubs.

Activities in 2009

During 2009 the Beavers took part in several activities and outings including :

Learning about people not as fortunate as themselves and in particular those with disabilities. They had a week discussing the Paralympics and held a variety of sporting activities to be done with a disability, i.e. Skittles Blindfolded, One legged assault course and skipping, Basket ball on knees, One armed Hockey. They looked at some artwork created by "Mouth and Foot painting" artists and were given the task in their Lodges to create a Garden Scene, firstly using the brush in their mouths and then secondly with their feet. They worked well in their Lodges to create some colourful pictures, all of them found the task quite tricky but enjoyed the challenge.

Also, Castle and Fort making and a day trip to Camelot Theme Park

Photos of these activities are in our Photo Gallery

District Sleepover 2008

This spring the Three Towns District Beaver sleepover was held at Hartshill HQ and nearly 40 of the district's beavers attended a fun-filled weekend. The theme this time was Pirates and was a very popular choice judging by the reaction of the beavers as they arrived! Hartshill Scouts had very kindly made a pirate ship as a centre piece to the hall and the rest of the hall was decorated with other pirate decoration such as flags and skulls and crossbones. We had fun making bandanas, swords, eye patches, flags, sashes, and pirate faces to decorate the pirate ship. The weather wasn't so kind when we took the beavers outside for a treasure hunt around the playing field but that didn't dampen the spirits of the beavers. A magician wowed us all with his clever illusions and many games were played throughout the weekend. As always the cooking team provided some delicious food and all the leaders helped to make it a very special weekend for the Beavers

District Sleepover November 2007

The Three Towns district beaver sleepover this November was held in Trentham Scout House. Beavers from Hartshill, Sea Scouts, Meir Park, Blythe Bridge, Dresden, and of course Trentham all attended.

We had a Medieval theme for this sleepover. The Scout house was decorated with rows of bunting and displays of colony flags. The beavers were put into teams for the weekend, all different coloured Knights. They took part in many art/craft activities including making helmets, swords, shields, and badges. We had some visitors join us from Stafford Castle. They gave us a wonderful insight into life during the Medieval times, including showing examples of Costume and Weaponry, that all beavers then got a chance to wear and hold. We even took the opportunity to rein act battles using their swords and shields that were made earlier in the day. With a well planned Medieval Menu everyone was well fed with a delicious selection of food. There was also a Castle making competition in which the teams of knights had to create a castle out of Plastic cups, straws, coloured paper, sticky tape, and glue. They managed to come up with some very interesting designs! At bedtime they all settled down in their sleeping bags in the hall to watch Shrek the Third.

As always, a great time was had by all!

Sleepover May 2007

Our district beaver sleepover this May was held in our very own HQ. Beavers from Hartshill, Normacot, Sea Scouts, Park Hall, Meir Park, Blythe Bridge, Dresden, and of course Trentham all attended what was a fun-packed weekend. The theme for this sleepover was the Jungle. The Scout house was decorated with palm trees, vine, and a selection of Jungle animals! The beavers took part in many art/craft activities including making palm trees, animal tails, salt dough animals, pom pom animals, door hangers, animal masks, slithering snakes and decorating pots. All the games we played incorporated the Jungle theme, as did the delicious menu of food. We even managed to get all the beavers to learn a dance to the ‘Bare Necessities’. At bedtime they all settled down in their sleeping bags in the hall to watch Disney’s ‘Jungle Book’. Everyone who took part had a great time, had lots of crafts to take home, and made so many new friends along the way. Roll on the next sleepover!
